The Creator's Guide to Content Pillars.

Trends tell you what's hot this week. Pillars tell you who you are all year. Here's how to turn the trends and gaps you find in MiniCompass into 3–5 social media content pillars that actually compound.

What a content pillar actually is

A content pillar is a repeatable subject you own. Not a topic you'll post about once — a lens you'll come back to every week for a year. Sprout Social, HubSpot, and every serious media brand run on the same idea: pick a small number of pillars, and let every post ladder up to one of them.

Three to five is the sweet spot. Fewer than three and you sound like a single-note account. More than five and your audience can't describe you in one sentence — which means the algorithm can't either.

The MiniCompass method: trends in, pillars out

MiniCompass gives you three raw ingredients per niche: top trends, biggest gaps, and who's already winning. Pillars are how you organize them into a point of view.

  1. 01

    Scan your subcategory

Open the niche that fits your voice. Read every trend and every gap. Don't filter yet — collect.

  2. 02

    Cluster into themes

Group trends and gaps by the underlying question they answer. Three to five clusters will emerge naturally.

  3. 03

    Name each pillar

Give each cluster a title a viewer could repeat. 'Weeknight dinners in 20 minutes' beats 'quick recipes'.

  4. 04

    Assign a format

Each pillar gets one default format: reel, carousel, long-form, or newsletter. Repetition is what builds recognition.

  5. 05

    Plan the ratio

Roughly 40% your strongest pillar, 20% each for the others. Let performance rebalance you over time.

  • — Model literacy. Plain-language explainers for what changed this month.

◍ Mind & Body

  • — Recovery, not grind. Sleep, mobility, and the quiet stuff nobody films.
  • — Form fixes. Short reels correcting one common mistake per post.
  • — Mind check-ins. A weekly reflection prompt tied to the week's training.

How to know your pillars are working

After thirty days, sort your posts by pillar and ask three questions. Which pillar drove the most saves and shares? Which pillar attracted the followers you actually want? Which pillar bored you to make? Kill or reshape the one that lost all three. Double down on the winner. Repeat the exercise every quarter — pillars are living, not carved.
